Pembroke Castle is one of the countries most popular Celtic Castles with a long and interesting history which you can find out about on this website as well as details of tours and activities.

This Celtic castle is in outstanding condition. It was first built at the end of the 11th century made from the usual materials of the time which were timber and earth and still managed to withstand a prolonged siege by Celtic warriors.

During the 12th century the new Earl decided that the castle needed reinforcing and had it made into a brand new stone castle. At the centre there is a stone keep that is both outstanding to look at and is very novel from an architectures perspective.

When touring this beautiful example of a Celtic castle you are free to ascend to the top of the keep and take a look at some of the amazing views, great for photo opportunities of the surrounding area as well as parts of the castle below and you can see how much of a defensive stronghold this place was.

When visiting Celtic castles you always want to see as much of the castle as possible but often this may not be allowed and this can be for numerous reasons. Fortunately we let people go most places, take pictures, sit, stand, talk and relax allowing you to view the castle at your leisure.

The design of this Celtic castle and keep was done by William Marshall whose uncle was the conqueror of Ireland and the main reason why the castle was converted to a stone castle.
