New Exhibition for 2010 - John Poyer and the Civil Wars
John Poyer seized Pembroke for Parliament in 1642. The exhibition tells the tragic story
of
- Poyer’s defection to the Royalists,
- the 1648 siege by Cromwell, and
- Poyer’s fate.

March 1648 – Parliamentarians fight rebels in murderous hand to hand combat.
April 1649 – Which condemned Royalist leader should die? The victim is chosen by lot.

Here Poyer gazes at his fatal, blank sheet.
Panels relate the story in more detail, with many copies of seventeenth century pictures,
manuscripts and pamphlets.
The major exhibition occupies two rooms.
