This impressive chamber and its huge decorated windows date from about 1280-1290. It is easy to see holes in the stonework for the wooden joists where a floor would have been and the two huge fireplaces, one above the other, share the chimney. These were obviously living rooms for members of the family.
There is another exit from the Northen Hall, perhaps unique in British castles. As you enter, on the left, there is a doorway leading to a long downward sprial staircase. At the base of this is a surprise. It is the most extraordinary feature of Pembroke Castle.
