As you approach the building notice the remains of the inner curtain wall on the left. To the right of the Western Hall are the excavated ruins of the chapel. A worn step and door socket can be still be seen at the entrance. The inner Gatehouse once formed a fortified gatehouse guarding the Inner Ward before the outer ward was built.
Inside the Western Hall there is a long vaulted chamber with a large fireplace on the south wall. Notice the arrow slits and the latrine or garderobe in a turret to the north west. Here again there is is a staircase to the roof. Notice, at the top, the stone chimney stack.
