Major-General Philipps started an extensive restoration of the castle, restoring the walls and towers as nearly as possible to their original appearance.

The result has been a great success and now you can explore the many towers and rooms to get a good idea of what they were like in the Middle Ages.After the General's death a trust was set up, managed jointly by the family and the town council, to maintain Pembroke Castle and to continue the good work of the man who rescued the building.
